On our short 100 mile camping trips to the mountains we also carry 2 E2000 gens. We carry in the truck when loaded to travel, me, wife, a 5 lb Yorkie + the hitch and a few odds & ends (maps, munchies etc) and we're a smig under 400 lbs under our 8200 VWR & rear axle is 290 lbs under it's 4800 WR. Truck's rear sets 2" high unloaded and sets 1/2" high with the 5er attached. The suspension is pure stock, no added extras. See no problems with you towing the 5er you mentioned. Our little F-150 is a fantastic match for our 5er. elevations with one longer trip up around the Northwest part of the country (Oregon, Washington). Mostly over & around the Southern Rockies at between 7 and 10,000 ft. We've towed a little over 9,000 miles with it so far. Our truck at 2172 lbs payload capacity is only 112 lbs more than yours. We tow it with a '13 XLT Screw HD payload Ecoboost. Wet axle is 7240, wet pin weight 1460 with a total of 8700 lbs. Dry axle weight of 5890 lbs, dry pin was 1190 for a total dry weight of 7080#'s. I'm sure there is a significant safety margin built into the axle rating but I wanted to be comfortably under any limits for legal reasons and ended up being under by the skin of my teeth. Combining those factors together Cat scales show 3790 lbs on my 3800 lb rated rear axle while my overall weight was 14900 vs the 17,100 I am allowed. Note also that the published weight on the fifth wheel pin may not be correct. Upgrade the factory pin box on your fifth-wheel trailer to this cushioned model that dampens road shock and reduces back-and-forth chucking for a more relaxed towing experience. I have the Reese Revolution / sidewinder inbox so could use a lighter non slider hitch but was still very close. Note that the weight of the hitch needs to be included. Check it carefully on the ones you are looking at and do the math. The brochures talk 2170 payload capacity but the yellow sticker on my truck says 2053. You should be fine on overall weight but the limiting factor is likely your max weight on the rear axle. You won't have any issues pulling the load and the engine braking systems and tow brake controls are incredible in these rigs. I pull a 8000 lb dry weight 1300 lb pin 5th wheel with a 2015 supercab 3.5 EB max tow, not max payload.
